PFAS-Linked Health Conditions
Decades of research, including the landmark C8 Science Panel and the National Academies’ 2022 PFAS report, have linked long-term PFAS exposure to a growing list of cancers and chronic diseases. The conditions below are commonly evaluated in PFAS personal-injury and AFFF cases.
Most strongly linked conditions
- Kidney cancer
Renal cell carcinoma is among the most strongly linked PFAS-related cancers.
- Testicular cancer
Multiple peer-reviewed cohort studies link long-term PFOA/PFOS exposure to testicular cancer.
- Thyroid disease
Includes hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and certain thyroid cancers.
- Ulcerative colitis
Confirmed linked condition by the C8 Science Panel.
- High cholesterol (diagnosed)
Hypercholesterolemia confirmed by the C8 Science Panel.
- Pregnancy-induced hypertension / preeclampsia
Linked to in-utero or maternal PFAS exposure.
